'I’m now 49, I probably shouldn’t do this again': Joaquin Phoenix on weight loss for Joker 2

Joker 2 actor Joaquin Phoenix is excited for his new film to hit the screens. Speaking about any special diet he followed to lose weight for the role, the Oscar-winning actor said that “it was a bit more difficult” because the film demanded him to be good at dancing.
It was back in 2020 when Joaquin made headlines for revealing that he lost 52 pounds to prepare for the role of Arthur Fleck in the first film. Since Joker 2 essentially is an extension of that role, he had to lose weight for this Todd Phillips film too.
What Joaquin Phoenix has to say about weight loss
Addressing the weight loss, Phoenix said, “I’m not going to talk through specifics of the diet, because I just think nobody wants to hear that, but this time it felt a bit more complicated just because there was so much dance rehearsal that we were doing, which I didn’t have last time.”
“So it felt a bit more difficult, but it is safe. But you’re right, I’m now 49, I probably shouldn’t do this again. This is probably it for me,” he added.
He then directed the question toward his co-star Lady Gaga, saying: “Stefani also lost a lot of weight. I remember when I first met you in rehearsals and then you went away and then when you came back, you lost a lot of weight. It was really impressive.”

Lady Gaga didn’t address the weight loss and instead said, “I think we transformed into our characters over a period of time and we continued to hone in every kind of detail.”

Joker 2 is sequel to 2019 hit film
Joaquin’s next film, Joker 2 or as per the official title, Folie à Deux is the follow-up to Todd Phillips’ 2019 film Joker. The film was a massive hit and won the actor his Best Actor Oscars. That year it received a total of 11 Oscar nominations, including for Best Film.
Joker 2 also stars Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Zazie Beetz, and is set to premiere in theatres on October 4.
