Katy Perry to receive Video Vanguard Award at MTV Awards

Katy Perry will receive this year’s VMA’s Video Vanguard Award. 

The Roar singer is also set to entertain her fans with a performance of some of her greatest hits. This also includes her new single called “Lifetimes” which came out last week. There are reports that Katy will perform a medley of sorts at the awards show.

Katy Perry to perform at MTV VMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards 2024 is scheduled for September 11. Her performance is time perfect, just a week before she is set to release her new album, 143 on September 20. 

This will be Katy Perry’s first time on the show since 2017 when she collaborated with Nicki Minaj for that telecast’s finale.

Making the announcement on Katy’s win, Bruce Gillmer, the president of music, music talent, programming and events for Paramount and chief content officer, music, for Paramount+ said, “Katy is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon. With her game-changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world’s biggest stages. Katy’s prowess will be on full display live on the VMAs with a can’t-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits.”

Previous Vanguard winners

Last year, it was Shakira who was bestowed the honour. The previous Vanguard awardees include the likes of Beyoncé, Minaj, Madonna, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott and Michael Jackson. 

In addition to Katy Perry, audiences can expect performances from artists Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla and Rauw Alejandro.
