By-polls: Priyanka Gandhi secures comfortable lead in maiden contest from Kerala's Wayanad

Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra secured a comfortable lead in her maiden electoral contest in the Indian state of Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by over 300,000 votes.

Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Sathyan Mokeri is currently in the second position, whereas Navya Haridas from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in the third.

The by-polls were conducted in 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats across 15 states.

In Maharashtra's Nanded Lok Sabha seat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead of the grand old party by a margin of 13276 votes.

BJP's Santukrao Marotrao Hambarde is leading with 158778 votes, whereas Congress' Chavan Ravindra Vasantrao is trailing behind with 147115 votes. 

The voter turnout in the Nanded constituency, on Wednesday (Nov 20), was recorded as 53.78 per cent.

In Uttar Pradesh, BJP candidates are leading in Majhawan, Ghaziabad, Kundkarki, Khair and Pulpur, while the SP secured lead in Karhal and Sismhamau and the RLD in Meerapur.

BJP's Asha Nautiyal is leading in Uttarakhand's Kedarnath. Trailing behind is Congress' Manoj Rawat.

Karnataka bypolls

The ruling party in the state, Congress, secured a lead in the Channapatna, Shiggaon assembly segments and won in  Sandur by a margin of 9649 votes.

The by-election to three segments was held on November 13.

The by-polls saw a contest between Congress and BJP in Sandur and Shiggaon segments. 

Congress candidate Pathan Yasirahmedkhan is leading with 99399 votes and Bharath Bommai is behind with 85919 votes.

In Sandur, Congress candidate E Annapoorna won by 93616 votes. Trailing behind was BJP's Bangara Hanumantha with 83967 votes.

In Channapatna, Congress' Yogeeshwara is ahead by 26462 votes. The second spot is grabbed by Janata Dal (Secular)'s Nikhil Kumaraswamy who has so far accumulated 77702 votes.
