Maharashtra Assembly Election Results 2024 LIVE: The stage is set for the poll results for Maharashtra Assembly election results 2024, with incumbent Mahayuti alliance of chief minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar camp) hoping to retain power. On the other hand, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising the Congress and the breakaway faction of the Sena and NCP, is hoping to stage an upset.

The voting for the 288 seats of the Maharashtra assembly took place in a single phase on November 20, with a voter turnout of about 66.05 per cent.The counting of votes has begun in Maharashtra with the Mahayuti maintaining a good lead over the MVA. 

The Mahayuti is set for a landslide win in the election.

On the landslide victory of Mahayuti, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde calls it a "record breaking victory". 

"We have seen so many elections, but the people took control of these polls. A landslide victory, people showed love towards Mahayuti. Girls, women, farmers, all showed their love and affecttion to our coalition, we bow before them," Shinde said at a joint presser with his deputies Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis.

"In the last 2 years, we have worked together for the state and took historic decisions. The work which the opposition MVA had stopped, we started again," he added.

As the Mahayuti alliance moves closer to a sweeping win in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, CM Eknath Shinde emphasised that the decision on the Chief Minister's post will be made collectively after the final results are announced on Saturday.

Thanking voters and party workers, Shinde said, “Let the final results come in… Just as we fought the elections together, all three parties will decide together who will be the CM.”

He added, “This is a landslide victory. I had said earlier that Mahayuti would achieve a thumping win. I thank all sections of society and the workers of all Mahayuti parties.”

Just like Jharkhand, the majority of the exit polls in Maharashtra predicted that the Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance) would emerge victorious in the western state.

But, the exit poll by Lokpoll gave Mahayuti 115-128 seats, with 37-40 per cent vote share, and predicted victory for MVA in 151-162 seats, giving them 43-46 per cent vote share. It gave others 5-14 seats with a vote share of 16-19 per cent.

The elections saw a keen contest between Mahayuti and MVA. It was first assembly poll in the state after splits in Shiv Sena and NCP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held several rallies in Maharashtra to boost prospects of BJP and Mahayuti candidates. He strongly attacked Congress in his rallies and emphasised 'hum ek hain to safe hain' slogan.

The ruling Mahayuti is poised to retain power in Maharashtra and the NDA also having an edge to form government in Jharkhand, exit polls predicted on Wednesday as polling concluded in the two states.

Most exit polls also predicted that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would put up a strong show in polls but is unlikely to cross the majority mark in the 288-member assembly.

According to the P-Marq exit poll, the Mahayuti alliance would win 137-157 seats whereas the Maha Vikas Aghadi would get 126-147 seats and others 2-8 seats.

Maharashtra State's Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam lauded the efforts of the Election Commission’s officers and staff ahead of vote counting day, highlighting the ECI's dedicated attention to the Maharashtra polls.

"The Election Commission of India focused significant attention and time on Maharashtra this time. Every strategy was carefully planned and executed with precision, leading to a substantial increase in the voter list between the Parliament elections and the current polls. Efforts were also made to simplify the voting process, particularly in places like Mumbai, where there were issues during the Parliament elections. This time, the arrangements received widespread praise," he said.
