Peskov further called US an “unfriendly country”, stressing that they are already at their “lowest point in history”.
As several world leaders congratulated Donald Trump for his electoral victory, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday (Nov. 6) that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not planning to call Trump to congratulate him on his win.
Kremlin spokesperson was speaking at a briefing and said that he was not aware of any plans to congratulate Trump.
“I am not aware of the president’s plans to congratulate Trump on the election,” Peskov said.
Peskov further called US an “unfriendly country”, stressing that they are already at their “lowest point in history”.
“Let’s not forget that we are talking about an unfriendly country that is both directly and indirectly involved in the war against our state,” he said.
“It is practically impossible to make relations between the United States and Russia any worse, as they are already at their lowest point in history,” Peskov said, as reported by Russian state-run media outlet TASS.

However, he added that there is a chance for the next administration to change its position on dialogue with Russia.
“President Putin has repeatedly said that he is open to a constructive dialogue based on justice, equality, and mutual respect for each other’s concerns. And President Putin remains committed to this position and has reiterated it multiple times,” Peskov said. “But today, the US administration holds a contrary position. Let’s wait and see what happens in January.”
Referring to Trump’s promise to end Russia’s war with Ukraine, Peskov said Russia is waiting to see what Trump will do once in office before beginning the negotiations.
“Once [in the Oval Office], statements can sometimes take on a different tone. That’s why we say we are carefully analysing everything, monitoring everything, and we will draw conclusions from specific words and concrete actions,” he said.
