Ayushmann Khurrana first heard of 'Gulabo Sitabo' at Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh's reception, reveals Shoojit Sircar

Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana's film 'Gulabo Sitabo' has digitally released on Amazon Prime Video on Friday. The Shoojit Sircar directorial has got good response from critics. Sircar who made Ayushmann Khurrana's debut film 'Vicky Donor' and revealed that he was the first choice for the role of Bankey in 'Gulabo Sitabo'.

Speaking to an entertainment portal, Sircar revealed that his first narration of the script to Ayushmann was at an unsual place- Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's wedding reception. "Yes, Ayushmann was the first choice but before that, we debated a lot. His casting was done later. First was Mr Bachchan's casting and then I remember I think I broke the news to him, I remember it was... Deepika Padukone's reception (laughs). So at that reception, I gave him the basic narration, I remember. And you know that's when we agreed (to do the film). He was excited, he was jumping since then."

"So, I think we first bounced the idea to him at their reception. Suddenly mere ko yaad aa raha hai. I think you are the first one I am telling this. So, that's when I told him the idea," the director added.

Set in Lucknow, the film has Big B playing Mirza, the owner of a dilapidated haveli who is at perpetual loggerheads with his tenant Bankey, played by Ayushmann.
