Story highlights

All roads in Mumbai led to the Heeramandi premiere as Bollywood A-listers attended the screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest project.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's digital debut Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is just days away from release. The Netflix series is being touted as the biggest release of the OTT platform from India this year. The premiere of the show took place in Mumbai on Wednesday night and was attended by Bollywood A-listers. Bhansali may not have posed on the red carpet, but the starry affair was attended by Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Ananya Panday and others.

Alia Bhatt, who won a National Award for her role in Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, walked in dressed in pristine white. The actress posed on the red carpet with her mum Soni Razdan and mother-in-law Neetu Singh. Bhansali's next feature film project also stars Alia along with Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor.

While Alia's husband Ranbir was not present on Wednesday night, Vicky Kaushal walked in looking dapper in a black ethnic outfit.

New couples posed on the red carpet

Aditi Rao Hydari, who is part of the Heeramandi cast, posed on the red carpet with beau Siddharth. The couple announced their engagement earlier this month. Siddharth wore a black traditional outfit while Aditi looked splendid in a multi-colour ethnic outfit.

Newlyweds Pulkit Samrat and Kriti Kharbanda walked hand in hand and posed for the paps on the red carpet. The couple got married in March this year in Delhi and this was their first public appearance post-wedding.

Another couple of Bollywood, Ananya Panday and Aditya Roy Kapoor attended the event but did not pose together although they matched their outfits in shades of blue. Ananya looked pretty in a royal blue dress and Aditya matched her with a grey suit and blue shirt.

Salman Khan and Karan Johar attend the Heeramandi premiere

Salman Khan, who worked with Bhansali in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Khamoshi, also attended the premiere. He, however, took a rather casual route for his outfit, wearing a graphic pair of jeans with Naruto and other drawings on them. It was earlier announced that Salman would collaborate with Bhansali for a film co-starring Alia Bhatt but the project was subsequently shelved.

Filmmaker Karan Johar also attended the event. Years ago Bhansali and Johar were known to have a long-standing tiff but KJo's attendance on Wednesday hinted that the two may have buried their differences in recent years.

The cast of Heeramandi was present dressed in regal best. Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Sehgal, Aditi Rao Hydari, Fardeen Khan and Taha Shah posed together on the red carpet.

Mrunal Thakur, Shruti Haasan, and Rakul Preet Singh also attended the premiere in ethnic outfits.
