Oscar favourite Slumdog Millionaire to get sequel? Here's everything we know

Slumdog Millionaire could soon get a sequel. 

The production company Bridge7 by film producer Swati Shetty and Grant Kessman has acquired the rights to the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire and reports suggest that they could soon be working on its sequel. The duo secured the film sequel and television rights in a deal struck with the UK-based Celador, the company that produced the original film with Film4. 

Slumdog Millionaire 2 in works?

Slumdog Millionaire enjoys fandom across the globe and became the most-talked-about film in 2008 when the Danny Boyle-directed feature won eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. 

The film launched many faces including Dev Patel who portrayed the role of Jamal whose life takes a turn when he wins jackpot on India’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” The film’s music also struck a chord with the worldwide audience when the film’s composer AR Rahman won seven BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globes for the music of the film.

On the new announcement of acquiring the films rights, Shetty and Kessman issued a statement: “Some stories stay with us long after the credits roll and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is undoubtedly one of them.
