Sanjay Dutt denies rumours of joining politics, says not contesting elections

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has shut down rumours about his foray into politics. Speculations were rife that the actor would be announcing his entry tnto politics and would be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 elections from Haryana. On Monday, Dutt took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to clear the facts and refuted rumours of him joining politics.

In his clarification, Dutt mentioned that he would personally make any political aspirations public should he choose to pursue them. 

Sanjay Dutt stated, “I would like to put all rumours about me joining politics to rest. I am not joining any party or contesting elections. If I do decide to step into the political arena then I will be the first one to announce it. Please refrain from believing what is being circulated in the news about me as of now.”

Political lineage

Dutt's entry to politics would not have been surprising. He belongs to an influential political family. His father, the late Sunil Dutt was an MP and even a Union Minister under the Congress government. 

Sanjay Dutt’s familial roots trace back to Yamunanagar in Haryana, hinting at his deep ties with the state. The actor's younger sister Priya Dutt is also a Congress MP.
 
Rumours began as the Congress Party has been looking at a formidable candidate against the BJP in Haryana’s Karnal constituency. In the past, Dutt has campaigned in Haryana for INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala, fuelling speculations about his potential candidacy.

Sanjay Dutt's upcoming films

Dutt was last seen in a cameo role in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan in 2023. He will be reportedly seen in Hera Pheri 3 next which features several prominent Bollywood actors including Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty. 

He also has Welcome to the Jungle in his kitty which features Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Paresh Rawal, Krushna Abhishek, Arshad Warsi, Daler Mehendi, Shreyas Talpade, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Tusshar Kapoor and others.
