Stree 2 finally has a release date! The Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao starrer film will be back with a second part this summer. Helmed by Amar Kaushik, the horror comedy will hit the big screens on August 15, Independence Day. The film will clash with Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein and Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 at the box office.
The official Instagram page of Maddock Films announced the release date.
The makers of Stree 2 recently piqued the curiosity of fans after they dropped a teaser of the film. However, there was a catch. The promo was not released on social media platforms and was screened directly in theatres as the audience lined up to watch Maddock Films' latest release Munjya, which is also a part of the Stree universe.
About Stree
Stree released in 2018, garnered widespread critical acclaim and became a commercial success. Apart from Rao and Khurrana, the film also featured Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles. The film's music also gained significant attention, with tracks like ‘Milegi Milegi’ and ‘Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe’ becoming chart-topping hits.
The sequel, directed by Amar Kaushik, is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. It is part of the producer’s horror-comedy universe, which includes films such as Stree, Roohi and Bhediya.
WION's review of Stree
In her review, WION's Shomini Sen had praised Pankaj Tripathi and Rajkummar Rao's performance in the film and said that the narrative took a feminist approach in the second half. "Based on an urban folklore that happened in Bangalore a few years back, the film takes a feminist approach in the second half. Men start dressing up like women to ward off the ghost, they ask their wives to come back home quickly as they are scared and women are seen instructing their men to not step out alone. It is indeed a utopian world. It also has an extremely quirky ghost. Like Rudra points out- 'Yeh Stree hai, purushon ke tarah zabardasti nahi karti, anumati leti hai (Unlike men who force, this ghost is a woman, she waits for consent)'. Where have you heard of a spirit who waits for consent?" Read the full review here
