The 1997 blockbuster film Border is getting a sequel. Border 2 will feature Sunny Deol and Ayushmmann Khurrana and is likely to be released on the big screen in January 2025. 

The film has been under the writing stage for more than a year apparently and as per reports, the team has finally got a script ready. 

According to a report in Pinkvilla, “Border 2 is targeting to hit the big screen on Friday, January 23, 2026 – leading to the Republic Day holiday on Monday, January 26, 2026." 

The source close to the project has stated that the makers are eyeing to release the film near to Republic Day as it is a war film. 

"Border 2 has been in the writing stage for over a year now and the team has cracked a script that stands to the expectations that people would have from a sequel to a mammoth all-time blockbuster like Border. Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana are very excited to embark on this journey by the end of this year," the source added. The film is "going to be the biggest war film of India".

Border 2 will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. JP Dutta directed the first Border however the sequel will be helmed by Anurag Singh. 

About Border

Border (1997) is an epic war film written, produced and directed by JP Dutta. Set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the film is based on the actual events that took place at the Battle of Longewala (1971). It stars Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt and Sharbani Mukherjee among others.
