Amid all of this, an image showing Evans autographing a weapon has started circulating across social media with a claim that it's an Israeli bomb. Following this, many went on to criticise the actor. However, the Knives Out actor was quick to defend himself, saying that the photo was eight years old and was taken during a USO tour in 2016.
Marvel actor Chris Evans has issued a clarification about an old photo of him sighing a weapon that appeared to be a 'bomb'. Evans, who is known for playing the role of Captain America, addressed the viral photo that started resurfacing days after former Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley was criticised for writing ‘finish them’ on an artillery shell during her visit to northern Israel amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

However, the Knives Out actor was quick to defend himself, saying that the photo was eight years old and was taken during a USO tour in 2016.
In the Instagram post, the actor said, ''There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding this picture. Some clarification: This image was taken during a USO tour in 2016.”
Adding that the object he's sighing on is an ''inert object used for training or display purposes only.''
“I went with a group of actors, athletes and musicians to show appreciation for our service members (sic). The object I was asked to sign is not a bomb, or a missile, or a weapon of any kind (sic),” he said.
“It’s an inert object used for training or display purposes only. You can read the quote from the Air Force in the next story,” he added.
The photograph was reportedly taken in December 2016, when Evans was in Turkey honouring U.S. troops sponsored by the United Service Organizations, as per THR.
Chris also shared a screen grab of the AFP Fact Check story, highlighting the quote from the Air Force confirming that the photo was taken in 2016 and the object is a ‘training aid’.
About the viral photo, an Air Force spokesperson told AFP, “The object Chris Evans is signing in the USO tour photo from 2016 is an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) inert training aid. The object is meant to model an artillery shell and is for display and training purposes only.”

Evans' photo went viral following Israel's recent attack on a displacement camp in Rafah, killing dozens of innocent lives. Even after Chris issued the clarification, many netizens were not satisfied with it, with some calling him out for maintaining silence on the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.
Waking up to see Chris Evans trying to defend himself over signing a bomb in a war zone is hilarious. His argument is that it wasn’t a real bomb. Mate, if you sign a toy gun outside a school is it still ok because it’s fake? It’s the message you’re sending out, you stupid c*nt.

A fan account of the Hollywood star urged actor to speak on the current situation of Gaza. It reads, “The post should have been accompanied by donation links or information regarding the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.”
“We urge Chris to speak out against this genocide and use his platform to push for a permanent, lasting ceasefire,” the account said.
