The announcement comes after a lot of rumours and several hints about the sequel. Previously, Sandler confirmed on the Dan Patrick Show that the sequel is in development.

“Dude, we’ve been talking about a Happy 2 and we’re working on some stuff… But don’t tell anybody,” he said.
Sandler and Tim Herlihy had co-written the sports comedy with Dennis Dugan directing it. Apart from Adam, the movie also starred Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, and the late Carl Weathers.

Netflix and Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Productions, have a longstanding deal of $250 million. Under this deal, the actor has produced eight titles for the platform like The Ridiculous Six, Sandy Wexler, stand-up special 100% Fresh, You Are So Not Invited.
Despite earning mixed reviews from critics, the film was a huge box office success, earning $39 million.
