Universal Pictures to make film on Britney Spears' memoir

Meanwhile, sources suggest that Universal won the rights to the Grammy winner’s memoir in a highly competitive auction. The memoir has been in the news and became a bestseller soon after it was released last October. The memoir has now sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone.

In the book The Woman in Me, Britney Spears writes about her journey to pop superstardom from her Mickey Mouse Club days to her conservatorship, her tumultuous relationship with another superstar, Justin Timberlake, her public breakups and her family equation.

The memoir is also available as an audiobook which is read by Michelle Williams, with an introduction by Britney Spears.

Universal Pictures was the first to swoop in on the offer to make a film on the memoir. They have a great success rate with musical biopics. They did well with 2015’s Straight Outta Compton which focused on N.W.A. Then they made 2002’s 8 Mile and are currently developing the definitive biopic of Snoop Dogg.

The studio also recently wrapped up production on the project from Pharrell Williams and Michel Gondry, inspired by the Grammy winners’ childhood neighbourhood.

Britney Spears won't return to music

Britney Spears has no plans to come back to the music industry. Ever since she’s been free with conservatorship, she dances on Instagram and ghostwrites for other artists.
