David Harbour calls Stranger Things series finale ‘the best’ episode, says cast cried 'uncontrollably'

The Stranger Things series is coming to an end with the upcoming season. The much-loved sci-fi series has been among one of the most awaited shows of the OTT space and as the show is nearing its conclusion, it will be an emotional moment for the cast and the fans as well.

The fifth season is currently in the works and actor David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper in the show, has spilled some beans about the forthcoming season, taking the fan's excitement a notch higher. 

Talking about the upcoming season five on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor said that they had read the final episode of season 5 and it is one of the best episodes of the entire show.

“Look, I'm very close to the show, so I have very strong opinions,” he said as per People. “And they may not match yours if you're a fan of the show.”

Talking further, the 49-year-old actor added, “I'm an actor on the show. So I see the nuts and bolts,” he said before adding that “sometimes [he’ll] get very mad' at what he thinks is “a bad episode or a season he didn't like.” 

“I can be very critical of this show,” Harbour said. However, for the final episode of season 5, he's very sure. 

He adds, “They land the plane, and it is the best episode they’ve ever done.”

Sharing how some cast members started crying during the reading, Harbour shared, “The end of this episode when we were reading it — just us reading it — about halfway through, people started crying.”

He added, “Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp being my favorite,” Harbour said.

The show started in July 2016 when the kid gang comprising Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Schnapp were aged between 11 to 14. However, now they have grown-up star kids with a fan following of millions around the world. 

Referring to the kids and the connection they had with the show, he said, “I think part of that also is the fact that these kids, it was their childhood.”

“It's 10 years later, and we examine that idea, and it's so well done and so beautiful.”

After talking a lot about season 5, he concluded, “It's such a great episode, and it's such a great season. You guys will love it.” 

Stranger Things Season 5

The upcoming fifth and final season will take the audience back to the world of Hawkins. As of now, no plot details have been released yet. 

Season five will be released in 2025 on Netflix.
