Story highlights

In an emotional appeal to the US Congress for reforms, Paris Hilton detailed her harrowing years at a foster care in Utah where she was neglected, abused and forced medications by staff.

Paris Hilton laid her heart bare in a recent House committee session as she opened up in detail for the first time about the abuse and neglect she faced in foster care she was admitted to in her growing up years. A famous socialite and businesswoman, Paris spoke about her harrowing time in one of the foster cares she was put into and how it reflects on America’s foster care system.

Her emotional and powerful appeal aimed to convince Congress to initiate an overhaul of the system and improve the lives of children in foster care who face the same. She described how she was physically and emotionally abused in the years she was put at a Utah boarding school for troubled teens. She said she was forced medication, was physically restrained on several occasions and was sexually abused by staff.

Paris Hilton’s emotional appeal

Speaking to Congress, Paris said, “When I was 16 years old, I was ripped from my bed in the middle of the night and transported across state lines to the first of four youth residential treatment facilities.”

She added, “These programmes promised healing, growth and support but instead did not allow me to speak, move freely or even look out a window for two years. I was force-fed medications and sexually abused by the staff. I was violently restrained and dragged down hallways, stripped naked and thrown into solitary confinement.”

While all this continued with her during her teenage years, Paris did not blame her parents who put her in the system. She said her parents Rick Hilton and Kathy Hilton were “deceived” and “manipulated”.

Not the first time for Paris Hilton

This is not the first time that Paris has asked for a reform of the education system in the US and has been an advocate for a law which would protect children from this “inhumane money-making industry.”

Back in 2020, in her documentary This Is Paris on YouTube, Paris Hilton exposed the alleged abuses she endured at Provo Canyon School. She called for protests to take the school down. She continues to urge Congress to address the needs of foster and adopted youth.
