Deadpool & Wolverine proves that the legacy of Fox's X-Men franchise still holds potential for new stories within the MCU. Channing Tatum's Gambit movie began to take shape in 2014, went through development hell for around five years, and then was cancelled in 2019.
Channing Tatum's cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine has once again reignited hope among millions of Marvel fans about a stand-alone film on the Gambit. Several years ago Tatum was taken on board to play Gambit in a stand-alone film by 20th Century Fox. However, the film never materialised.
Tatum recently earned praises for his comical role as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine - a film which saw multiple cameos and easter eggs. There were appearances from actors like Chris Evans as Human Torch, Dafne Keen's X-23, and Channing Tatum's Gambit was a highlight in the MCU adventure. Tatum's Gambit, in particular, stood out above the rest of Deadpool & Wolverine's multiversal cameos, stealing the spotlight with his comic-accurate costume and his hilarious accent.

“It’s impossible not to love and root for @channingtatum When he makes a Gambit movie, I’ll return the favour. If he needs someone to carry sandbags, I’m in. If he needs a Deadpool, I can do that. Someone to provide fresh orange slices to the crew, no problem. Name it," wrote Reynolds in his Instagram story.
Channing Tatum's Gambit movie seemed all but lost after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and the end of the Fox's X-Men movie franchise. However, Deadpool & Wolverine's critical and commercial success has brought back hope of revival of several characters.
