Story highlights

Sanjay Dutt was to star in Son of Sardaar 2 alongside Ajay Devgn. The film was a sequel to 2012 film.

Sometimes your past demons haunt you for an eternity. Sanjay Dutt would know this. In rather strange news, the Bollywood star had to be dropped from an upcoming film titled Son of Sardaar 2, after his visa application for the UK was dropped earlier this month.

Makers have reportedly replaced Sanjay Dutt since he will not be able to fly to the UK and join the rest of the cast for the shooting of Son of Sardaar 2, the sequel to the 2012 film.

Son of Sardaar 2 was to bring back the characters of Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, once again on the screen as they battled out some past scores. According to a new report by Mid-day, Sanjay Dutt has been replaced by Ravi Kishan.

This is why Sanjay Dutt's visa application for the UK was rejected

Son of Sardaar 2 was to shoot in Scotland. Makers dropped Sanjay Dutt after his visa fiasco. The publication reports, “Ever since his arrest in 1993, while Sanju has travelled to the US, he has applied for a UK visa multiple times, but never got one. The Son of Sardaar 2 shoot would have been his first trip to the UK. However, after Ajay’s team found out that the senior actor’s visa request had been rejected, they replaced him with Ravi Kishan."

The film also stars Mrunal Thakur.

Will Sanjay also be dropped from Housefull 5?

In addition, there were reports that another project of Sanjay’s could get hampered for the same reason. Sanjay was also roped in for Housefull 5. The Akshay Kumar-starrer comedy is reportedly slated to be shot in September in London. It was earlier reported that makers will have to replace Sanjay in this feature too but looks like producer Sajid Nadiadwala has found a way out.

According to reports, Sajid will shoot with the cast in London but all of Sanju’s portions will be filmed in Mumbai.

In April 1993, Sanjay was arrested under TADA and the Arms Act and convicted later for violation of the Arms Act for possession of illegal weapons procured from the other accused in the 1993 Bombay bombings. He was sentenced to five years in prison. In March 2013, the Supreme Court upheld his five-year sentence. Sanjay got multiple bails over time. He completed his jail term in 2016.

As for Son of Sardaar 2, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt were to be seen as Billu and Jassi respectively. The makers were planning to introduce an antagonistic shade to the character played by Sanjay, which will now reportedly be essayed by Ravi Kishan.
