The 'real' Martha Scott who served as an inspiration for Netflix's most recent hit show Baby Reindeer is finally addressing those stalking claims
Netflix might find itself in trouble pretty soon as a woman named Fiona Harvey promises to sue the OTT giant and makers of its hit show Baby Reindeer for ruining her name and reputation. Denying what was shown on the show, Fiona Harvey, who is said to be the inspiration behind Baby Reindeer’s Martha Scott said that she never sent those emails.
The ‘real’ Martha Scott appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored and said, “I didn’t write him the emails,” denying she sent over 41,000 emails and 100 letters while allegedly stalking Richard Gadd who created and starred in Baby Reindeer– a story about an up and coming stand-up comic who starts getting stalked by a middle-aged woman.
When Piers asked Fiona Harvey about the emails, she replied, “I think he probably made them up himself, I’ve no idea.”
She also described the situation as “obscene” and “horrendous”.
She added, “It’s a work of fiction, it’s a work of hyperbole.”
Fiona admitted that the show does state some facts including the name 'Baby Reindeer' she gave Gadd, and meeting him in Hawley Arms pub in Camden. She said she ordered a lemonade rather than the signature Diet Coke Martha asks for in the show.
As for the name, Fiona said she gave the nickname after he’d “shaved his head,” and that he’d once propositioned her by offering to “hang her curtains,” a scene that is depicted nearly verbatim in the show.
During the interview, Fiona denied sending him tens of thousands of emails but admitted at one point, “I think there may have been a couple of emails.”
Fiona Harvey also complained of the show harming her interests since reporters have been hounding her since the show aired.
Also, she said that people on the internet have been trolling her. She said she didn’t do all the things they have shown on the show.
“Even if the email thing was true, the rest is not” she said, adding that she had never smashed up a bar or been convicted for stalking, as Martha does in the show.
Baby Reindeer debuted on Netflix last month and quickly became one of the most streamed shows. It is based on the story of a stand-up comedian who in a live show recounts the true story of being stalked by a customer at a bar for six months and sexually assaulted by a man in the entertainment industry who posed as a mentor.
