The movie tells the story of Callas's life, focusing on her final days in Paris. Before settling down in Paris, Callas had an exciting and successful life performing as an opera singer.
At the AFI Fest premiere, Angelina Jolie talked about her new film Maria where she plays the famous opera singer Maria Callas. While discussing the role, Jolie spoke about how she understands feeling lonely when someone is very focused on their work and gives it their all. She could relate to Callas on a personal level, especially since Jolie herself has been going through tough times, including her ongoing legal issues with Brad Pitt.
During the conversation, Jolie was honest about not being perfect herself but stressed that what matters is keeping up hard work and never giving up, even when things are difficult.
Speaking to PEOPLE at Hollywood’s AFI Fest premiere, Jolie shared she doesn’t want to “speak too much about it because it’s too personal, but there’s definitely a loneliness and a work ethic.” Drawing parallels to legendary Maria Callas she added, “I may be many things, but I'm a very hard worker, right?”
"I'm an imperfect person, but I work very hard, and she does,” she added.
