Kiran Rao's film Laapataa Ladies kicks off Academy Awards campaign as ‘Lost Ladies’

Laapataa Ladies was earlier selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. To kick off their Academy Awards campaign, the makers took to their Instagram account to reveal a new poster on Tuesday (Nov 12). 

The poster shows the lead characters of the film in a creative way; giving the audience a glimpse of the storyline. A line on the poster reads, "Sometimes you have to lose your way to find yourself." 

Lost Ladies 

The poster was captioned, "The wait is over! Presenting the official poster for Lost Ladies--a glimpse into the wild, heartfelt journey of Phool and Jaya! Huge shoutout to Jahan Singh Bakshi and Prashanth C for bringing our story to life with this stunning design. Get ready to be swept away!" 

 

The storyline 

The movie is a humorous satire on patriarchy that carries a message on gender equality and women's empowerment as it questions the struggles faced by the young girls in rural India.

Based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami, the movie is set in the fictional state of Nirmal Pradesh, where a young boy named Deepak, a farmer, loses his bride Phool Kumari and mistakenly brings another bride, Pushpa, to his home. How Deepak, with the help of his friends and police, finds his bride makes the rest of the story.   

The star cast 

The film was produced under Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Pictures, and Jio Studios; directed by Kiran Rao. It was released in theatres on March 1, 2024, starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam.
