Story highlights

Aurélien Tchouaméni, who has played a key part in Real’s progression to the final has suffered from a stress injury to his left foot and could be out for three weeks. If this is the case, Tchouaméni’s involvement in the final will hang in balance with the Real facing Borussia Dortmund in the final.

Real Madrid star midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni will face a race against time to be fit for the Champions League in London’s iconic Wembley Stadium on June 1. The French midfielder who has played a key part in Real’s progression to the final has suffered from a stress injury to his left foot and could be out for three weeks. If this is the case, Tchouaméni’s involvement in the final will hang in balance with the Real facing Borussia Dortmund in the final.

Tchouaméni out for three weeks

"Following tests carried out today on our player Aurélien Tchouaméni by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a stress injury to his left foot," the club said in a statement.

The injury occurred during Real’s dramatic 2-1 win over Bayer Munich on Wednesday where the hosts needed two goals in the final few minutes. Joselu’s brace was the difference-maker as Real Madrid beat Bayern in the semifinal second leg.

Tchouaméni’s injury should not be a huge issue for Real Madrid in their La Liga season as they have already won the league title. Last week’s 3-0 win over Cadiz coupled with Girona’s win over Barcelona saw Real clinch their 36th league title. It is expected that Tchouaméni will be rested for all their remaining matches in the La Liga season with capable deputies in the form of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and countryman Eduardo Camavinga.

The team will now turn attention to the Champions League final on June 1 with them taking on another German side Borussia Dortmund. This will be Dortmund’s second final at the iconic stadium having lost to Bayern Munich in the 2013 showpiece while Real will play their second match at the venue and first time in a final. Real’s only match at the Wembley Stadium was against Tottenham Hotspur in November 2017 when they lost 3-1. Wembley at that time was Tottenham’s adopted home with construction on their new stadium underway.
