Art is taking centre stage in travel plans, as an impressive 79 per cent of Indian travellers are planning to incorporate immersive art experiences into their 2025 holidays.   

The next year is set to redefine travel experiences with a strong emphasis on collective adventures and community engagement. A report by Skyscanner shows how Indian travellers are evolving in their preferences and seeking more meaningful connections through their journeys.  

Top destinations 

Looking at trending destinations for 2025 – within India, Shillong is gaining popularity for its picturesque landscapes and verdant hills. Internationally, Baku, Azerbaijan, is attracting visitors with its unique position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, while Langkawi, Malaysia, appeals to beach lovers. For budget-conscious travellers, Almaty, Kazakhstan, tops the Best Value Destinations list, followed by Jakarta, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.

What categories are interesting for Indian travellers? 

Sports tourism is experiencing unprecedented growth, with 53 per cent of Indian travellers expressing enthusiasm for attending live sporting events. Rather than watching from home, they're eager to immerse themselves in the electric atmosphere of stadiums, whether it's cricket, football, Formula 1, or other major tournaments.

Celestial tourism is also gaining significant traction, with 53 per cent of travellers dreaming of sleeping under starlit skies and 56 per cent interested in night photography. The Northern Lights have also captured the imagination of Indian travellers.  

Garden tourism is booming, with an overwhelming 90 per cent of Indian travellers expressing interest in visiting gardens during their holidays. Specific botanical experiences are particularly appealing, with 56 per cent eager to witness the cherry blossom season and 53 per cent planning visits to sunflower fields.

Notably, gaming and wellness tourism are also gaining momentum. 

About 70 per cent of travellers are prioritising holistic living and well-being during their trips. Meanwhile, gaming culture is significantly influencing Gen Z travel choices, with 62 per cent considering it their primary leisure activity and 57 per cent drawing travel inspiration from video game locations.
