Golden Globes 2023: Meet the big winners of the night

The Golden Globes 2023 winners are here, and the list is full of diversity! After a silent ceremony last year and a year full of backlash from the film industry over voters' lack of diversity, the annual award show, which is organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, returned to the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, California with a bang!

This year's ceremony's big winners are Angela Bassett, who made history as the first Marvel actor to win Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Austin Butler, who won his first Golden Globe trophy for his outstanding performance as Elvis Presley.

Steven Speilberg - Best Director

Another Golden Globe trophy in Steven Spielberg's bag. Spielberg won the best director trophy at the 2023 Golden Globes on Tuesday night for his coming-of-age drama 'The Fabelmans'.

While accepting the award for his autobiographical drama, he said, “I’ve been hiding from this story since I was 17 years old. I put a lot of things in my way of this story.”

The Fabelmans - Best Picture

Steven Spielberg's critically lauded drama starring Gabriel LaBelle and Michelle Williams has won one of the biggest awards of the night - Best Motion Picture in Drama. 

The semi-autobiographical film is loosely based on director Steven Spielberg's adolescence and first years as a filmmaker. The film though tells the story of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, a young aspiring filmmaker who explores how the power of films can help him cope with his dysfunctional family.

Cate Blanchett - Best Actress in a Motion Picture in Drama

Cate Blanchett, the frontrunner of the award season, has won the best actress in a drama at the Golden Globe Awards 2023 for her critically lauded performance in 'Tár'.

This is Blanchett's 12th nomination and fourth Golden Globe win.

Austin Butler - Best Actor in a Motion Picture in Drama

For his outstanding performance in the biographical drama 'Elvis,' Austin Butler took his first Golden Globe home in the 'Best Actor in a Motion Picture -- Drama' category.

"Oh man, all my words are leaving me! "I just am so grateful right now. I'm in this room full of my heroes," Austin said in his acceptance speech as he gave a shout-out to Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt.

The Banshees of Inisherin - Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Beating the top choice 'Everything Everywhere All at Once', Martin McDonagh's directed drama 'The Banshees of Inisherin' took the 2023 Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Other films which were nominated in this category were - 'Babylon', 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' and 'Triangle of Sadness'.

Colin Farrell - Best Actor in a Motion Picture in Musical or Comedy

Another big win for 'The Banshees of Inisherin'! Colin Farrell has won his second Golden Globe for his indelible performance in Martin McDonagh's film. Colin won his first Golden Globe in 2008 for McDonagh's film, 'In Bruge'.

Michelle Yeoh - Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Dream come true moment for Michelle Yeoh! Yeoh won her first Golden trophy for her leading role in the action comedy movie 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'.

Looking stunning in a black dress, Yeoh said in her acceptance speech. "Hollywood was a dream come true until I came here."

Noting that she was called a "minority" and asked if she could speak English early in her career, The Malaysian actress added further, ''Forty years later, It’s been an amazing journey and incredible fight to be here today, but I think it’s been worth it."

Angela Bassett - Best Actress in a Supporting Role motion picture

After the wait of years, Angela Bassett made history at the Golden Globes when she won the Golden Globe for her role as Queen Ramonda in the 'Black Panther' sequel.

In her acceptance speech, Angela gave tribute to the late star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020.

Ke Huy Quan - Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture

The first-time nominee Ke Huy Quan won Golden Globe for best-supporting actor for his performance in 'Everything Everywhere All at Once.' 

Quan got emotional while accepting the trophy, he said: “I was raised to never forget where I came from, and to always remember who gave me my first opportunity. I am so happy to see Steven Spielberg here tonight.”

House of the Dragon - Best Television Series – Drama

'Game of Thrones' prequel series 'House of the Dragon' won big at this year's Golden Globe awards. Beating 'Better Call Saul', 'Ozark', 'The Crown' and 'Severance', director Miguel Sapochnik's show took the Best Television Series – Drama.

Naatu Naatu - Best Original song

Indian drama 'RRR' made history! SS Rajamouli's Telugu drama won the Golden Globe trophy for the song 'Naatu Naatu' in the Best Original song category. 

The Telugu track Naatu Naatu is composed by veteran music director MM Keeravaani and penned by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. It has been sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava.
