India’s men’s hockey team had their ‘Chak de moment’ at the Paris Olympics 2024 after they beat Australia (3-2) for the first time in 52 years in the Summer Games. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored a brace, including the second and the third goal, to lead India to a second-place finish in their Group B with ten points from five contested matches.

Though India maintained their momentum for some time, Australia cracked open it with a goal in the 25th minute through Thomas Craig.

Veteran keeper PR Sreejesh made some stunning saves in the second half; however, the Aussies didn’t drop their guard and came back stronger after Harmanpreet made it 3-1 (via penalty shot in the 33rd minute) with a goal in the 55th minute. Blake Glovers made the most of his chance as Australia fought back in the game.

Abhishek got another massive chance in the final quarter but failed to convert it as India finished with three crucial points to stay ahead of Australia in the Group Standings.
