The Indian Cricket Team won the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Americas, with the BCCI offering a whopping USD 15 million (INR 125 crore) as prize money. Considering the Team’s entourage, the prize money gets split into different categories. While the 15 participating players alongside the head coach Rahul Dravid will get a sizable chunk, the remaining coaching staff, backroom staff, and the travelling reserves will also get their share. Besides, the BCCI also kept a portion for the selectors for their contribution.
Per the latest reports, the 15 squad members and Dravid will receive USD 600,000 (INR 5 crore) each, while each of the core coaching group, including batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T Dilip, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, will earn USD 300,000 (INR 2.5 crore). However, all five selection committee members, including the chairman Ajit Agarkar, will pocket USD 120,000 (INR 1 crore) each.
Moreover, the backroom staff, including three physiotherapists, three throwdown specialists, two masseurs and the strength and conditioning coach, will earn USD 240,000 (INR 2 crore) each.
The BCCI will also award the four travelling reserves – Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed, with USD 120,000 (INR 1 crore) each.
Meanwhile, the 42-team member Team India contingent also included a video analyst, BCCI staff members, media officers, and the logistics manager, with BCCI rewarding them also, per the reports.
“Players and support staff have been informed about the amount of prize money they will be receiving from the BCCI, and we have asked everyone to submit an invoice,” a BCCI source said, as quoted by The Indian Express.
A day after the Men in Blue won their second T20 world title, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced the prize money for everyone involved.
“As far as Rs 125 crore is concerned, it will cover the players, support staff, coaches and selectors as well. Everyone,” Shah said earlier.
Moreover, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also announced a USD 1.3 million cash reward for the Indian Team.
Meanwhile, three members of the World Cup-winning squad, Captain Rohit Sharma, veteran batter Virat Kohli and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, announced their T20I retirements following the triumph in Barbados.
In the grand finale against South Africa, India won by seven runs, with Kohli returning to form on the day it mattered the most. For his gritty 76, he won the Player of the Match, while India’s best bowler regarding impact, Jasprit Bumrah, who picked 15 wickets in the tournament, won the Player of the Tournament.
