Chinese President Xi Jinping believes that China-United States relations are among the most important bilateral relations in the world. Ahead of the 2024 US Presidential elections, the Chinese premier according to remarks from a letter to the 2024 annual awards dinner of the National Committee on US-China Relations said a successful partnership between the two nations is an opportunity for them to be enablers to each other's development—instead of an obstacle.
According to a CCTV news report, the Chinese president said, "China is willing to be a partner and friend with the United States," and that a partnership between them will "benefit not only the two countries, but the world".

He said that the bilateral relations between the US and China have a bearing on the future and destiny of mankind.
"China has always handled China-US relations in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, and has always believed that the success of China and the United States is an opportunity for each other," Xi said in the letter.
According to news agency Reuters, relations soured over the past year and have centred around issues, including restrictions on electric vehicles and advanced semiconductors.

Xi's statement on the potential his country's ties with the US holds comes just weeks before the pivotal US elections. The outcome of the upcoming Nov 5 elections could shape the future of US foreign policy, and potentially alter the dynamics of this relationship.
