UN General Assembly

With the United Nations General Assembly, Quad summit and the meeting of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden, the last fortnight of September 2021 promises to be action-packed with days of diplomacy.

WION is broadcasting live and direct from the USA to bring you coverage of these historic events.

UNGA 2021 is returning to in-person format this year after being held virtually last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Besides Covid, the pressing issues under discussion at UNGA 2021 include the continuing political crisis in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of US troops and return of Taliban to power; the coup in Myanmar, climate crisis, and the missile tests by North Korea.

The UNGA 2021 is also taking place in the immediate aftermath of the formation of AUKUS partnership, under which the US will develop nuclear submarines for Australia, much to the chagrin of China, and France which had hoped to get the contract from Canberra.

President Biden is also holding a meeting of global leaders on the Covid crisis, with the aim to vaccinate majority of global population and emerge out of the pandemic by the end of 2022.

So, UN General Assembly 2021 is unlike any other in several ways.

WION executive editor Palki Sharma and several reporters including chief diplomatic correspodent Siddhant Sibal and US correspondent Susan Tehrani are on the ground in Washington DC and New York to catch the action and bring you the developments as they happen.

Besides the live coverage, WION has also lined up a variety of shows and in-depth discussions and analysis for you from September 20 to 30. Watch our rolling coverage on WION channel, website and our social media handles.

Welcome to WION's special page on the in-depth coverage of these hectic days of diplomacy!
